Mt. Ontake erupted.
It is the second tallest volcano in Japan, next to Mt. Fuji.
The eruption occurred almost without any geological omens, and unfortunately it occurred in its most attractive season for visitors, that caused tens of victims.
Japan has lots of beautiful volcanoes as well as hot springs, that attract many visitors from within and abroad.
Volcanoes and hot springs are located in Japan because it is also located along the Circum-Pacific volcanic belt.
The geography of Japan has brought frequent volcano eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunami throughout its history.
We Japanese need to embrace the risk of these disasters and deal with it. Because it is the reverse side of our country’s natural beauty.
