– Bank of Japan decided to set its public interest rate to under zero percent. So-called “minus interest rate policy” will be applied to the national bank’s current account over a certain amount of deposits.
– Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy Amari Akira stepped down in the wake of a suspicion to have received money from a construction company, that media have reported as a bribe. Ishihara Nobuteru of LDP took his place.
– A record heavy snow and chilly weather struck Kyushu region of western Japan. Kyushu region has mild winters in normal seasons, so the unusual snowfall and chill of this week caused traffic jams and frozen-and-broken aqueducts in many places.
